Toll calculator Valencia 2026: what a lorry pays on the port corridors

Valencia moves more container traffic than any other Spanish port, and its motorway network is unusually generous: the A-3 to Madrid, the A-7 bypass, the V-21 and V-31 port access and the AP-7 corridor all carry no barrier toll for lorries in 2026. So why do quotes still go wrong? Because the money hides elsewhere — in distance-based charges, in the last mile into the terminals, and above all in the French side of a Valencia–Lyon run, where a third of the load's variable cost can sit.

How does the Valencia network price heavy vehicles?

Three things decide the number:

  • Axle class on barrier sections — a five-axle articulated combination pays roughly 1.7x a two-axle rigid;
  • Distance-based charges on selected state-network sections for vehicles from 3.5 t, invoiced electronically with no booth;
  • Corridor choice, which for Valencia matters less inside Spain than at the French border.

The Spanish side is genuinely cheap. The A-3 towards Madrid, the A-23 towards Teruel and Zaragoza, the A-7 along the coast to Alicante and Barcelona and the V-30/V-31 ring around the port are untolled for heavy vehicles. That is why a Valencia–Madrid quote at zero toll is roughly right, while a Valencia–Lyon quote at zero toll is off by several hundred euros.

What do the corridors out of Valencia cost in 2026?

Indicative one-way tolls at current concession tariffs, revised annually.

Read the table as a story about the Pyrenees. Everything west of the border is essentially toll-free; the moment a load crosses into France the toll line becomes the second-largest cost after the driver.

Why is Valencia the cheapest big gateway in Spain on tolls?

Because geography let the state build free motorways along the coast and inland, and because the port access roads are municipal and untolled. Barcelona, by contrast, sits behind tolled approaches on several axes, and Bilbao pays the AP-8 corridor. For a carrier comparing gateways on total cost, Valencia wins the toll comparison by €60–€120 on a Madrid-bound leg and by more on coastal work.

The catch is capacity, not price. Valencia's port terminals work on booking slots, and the V-31 approach saturates between 07:00 and 10:00 and again from 17:00 to 20:00. A toll-free corridor that delivers you to a two-hour queue is not free — it costs a driver's hour, and on a 355 km leg that hour is worth more than any Spanish toll you avoided.

What does Valencia–Lyon cost in tolls and fuel?

This is the corridor where the calculation decides the business. Two routings, both legitimate, with very different cost structures.

RoutekmFuel (€1.48/l)TollsDriver timeTotal€/km
Direct via AP-7 / A-9 / A-7~1,050€404 (26 l/100)~€43011.5 h~€1,225~€1.17
Toll-free via A-75 (Massif Central)~1,240€550 (30 l/100)~€6014 h~€1,086~€0.88

The toll-free corridor saves roughly €140 per trip, at the price of two and a half extra hours and 190 extra kilometres. On scheduled groupage that trade is usually worth taking; on a just-in-time delivery with a fixed dock slot in Saint-Priest or Vénissieux it is not, because a missed window costs more than the toll and the extra fuel combined.

Note the fuel effect: the longer route burns 19% more diesel, which eats almost a third of the toll saving. Carriers who compare only the toll line and not the consumption routinely conclude the motorway is expensive when it is not.

How do port and city rules change the calculation?

Valencia restricts access to the historic centre with a low-emission zone based on environmental labels, with time windows for goods vehicles. That affects the final delivery, not the port run. Two operational facts matter more for costing:

  • Terminal booking slots determine when the truck can enter, so the driver's waiting time is a real cost line;
  • Empty container returns often go to a different terminal from the pickup, adding 20–40 minutes and 15–30 km inside the same zero-toll zone.

Neither appears in a toll calculator, and both are why a Valencia load quoted at pure distance rate tends to lose money.

How do you calculate the toll before quoting?

  1. Classify the combination by axles and record it once per vehicle, not per quote.
  2. Check whether the route leaves Spain; the French section is the cost driver.
  3. Compare the motorway corridor against the A-75 alternative when the load is not time-critical.
  4. Add distance charges and terminal waiting time to the toll line.
  5. Convert to €/km and €/tonne before comparing with the offered rate.

FAQ

Are there lorry tolls from Valencia to Madrid? No barrier toll on the A-3. Distance-based charges may apply on certain sections for vehicles from 3.5 t, and they are invoiced electronically.

How much does a Valencia–Lyon run cost in tolls? Around €430 for a five-axle combination on the direct motorway route, indicative 2026 rates, or about €60 if you route through the toll-free A-75 corridor.

Is the AP-7 through Valencia still tolled? The corridor through the Valencia region is free for heavy vehicles in 2026. French motorways on the continuation are not.

Can I avoid French tolls on the way to Lyon? Yes, via the A-75 through Clermont-Ferrand. It adds roughly 190 km and 2.5 hours, and saves around €140 net once extra fuel is counted.

Does TRANSCEND price French and Spanish tolls in one calculation? Yes — one route, both networks, with your real axle profile. See how it works.

Why calculate Valencia costs per load, not per kilometre

Because on this gateway the toll is nearly zero until it is suddenly a third of the cost. TRANSCEND combines the free Spanish corridor, the French tariff, distance charges and fuel at route consumption into one cost per load, then shows it against the rate. Book a live demo or check pricing.
